3rd episode acute bronchiolitis

Barely 7 days after her discharge from hospital, Danielle was back to hospital for the same problem. We hesitated to bring her back, because we knew she had to undergo lots of needle poking. Without much choice, Danielle was admitted again on 30 Oct 2008. Both of her lungs collapsed. Little do we know that this admission turned out be a 30days stay in HD and 12days stay in ICU. A series of events caused her condition to worsen.
Among the many stays in KK, this admission was the most difficult to deal with. Our emotions were like roller coasters and every day was filled with anxiety and frustration. Danielle's lungs kept taking turns to collapsed. There was no medication to help her get better, and Danielle had to depend on her own immune system. Despite the fact that Danielle was not doing well, she had to under go 2 tests: VFSS and pH probe study. The VFSS shows Danielle has swallowing problems, and cannot take oral feeds for the rest of her life. As for the PH scope test, it confirmed Danielle has mild gastroesophageal reflux (GERD). The VFSS confirmed Danielle should go for a fundoplication and gastrostomy (G-tube) done, but the mild GERD didn't justify for it.
God knew that Danielle needs G-tube. In this admission, I met a few mothers whose child had G-tube done. While taking lunch one day in the HD pantry, one mum offered to show me her son's PEG. God always has ways to link me up with other mums.
The pH probe test was a unpleasant one. Despite the fact that we know that Danielle has GERD, this test still needs to be done to support the surgery. Partly because of the pH probe test, Danielle has an aspirates pneumonia and ended up in ICU. Danielle could not tolerate a certain volume of milk in her stomach, but to have the pH probe test done, a minimum amount of milk must be fed. The whole pH probe test went on well, but Danielle aspirated badly after the test was completed. I wasn't there when everything happened. One of the nurses said Dan's face turned white, and I think she was resuscitated and moved to ICU.
