Finding Rest

It has been 11 weeks since Danielle was out of the hospital stay. We have been busy with stuffs like improving her condition and quality of life, finding a good caregiver, carrying out the daily respiratory procedures, giving her the daily hygiene care, going for therapies, giving her therapies, finding the right diet... While things settle down a bit and many of these stuffs stabilised, I began to find time for rest. In between the 11 weeks, we did have some timeout here and there, like small outing and even a few days away from home. I can say I have sufficient physical rest, but not soul rest. Today I got some and would like to share with you. Every since we had the session with the PT L. Danielle have a lot of homework to do. As you see in the picture , Danielle is carry out the strengthening of her hands and legs muscle. There also the stretching for all her limb to prevent contraction. We have seen alot of improvement in her hand and leg movement ever since the starting of the exercise routine.

Last weekend, we have a short stay over at Ananda Country Club. Its Danielle first stay out other than the hospital. There alot of logistics matter to resolve and things to bring but we made it. Thanks to my incredible and super wife whom arrange it.

Equipment that Danielle use

Image
These are the equipments Danielle is using. The first equipment is the oximeter-this allow us to monitor her oxygen saturation and her pulse rate. This is the humidifier and the CPAP machine. The humidifier makes the air humid. The CPAP machine helps to filter off any dust and bacterial, and blows the humidified air into the airways and help Danielle to breathe better. Next, the suction cateter and suction machine which help to suck Danielle's secreation. The cateter will go into her nostril and nasal area to suck out the mucus. As Danielle cannot swallow on her own, we also suck her saliva to reduce the risk of her choking on her saliva.

Little yellow dress looks good on her

Danielle grew quite a fair bit. Most of her clothes are already too small for her. As we're trying out the clothes her sister used to wore,we realize she looks good in yellow. Danielle gave us a lovely smile which really brighten up our day. As you read this, may it also brighten your day too.

Putting into practice what we have learnt

Image
After the PT session with L, we've been letting Danielle situp and exercise her motor skill. For each situp session, we can only allow her to sit up for 10 mins. Anything more than that, Danielle will not be able to tolerate as there are alot of secretions. As a result, her oxygen saturations drop below 92%. This happen a few times, and we are afraid to let her situp, knowing that after each situp session it will be follow by suction to remove the secretion. Suctioning really cause alot of discomfort to her.
